Today both classes were outside of school. My grammar teacher invited Ruth and her grammar teacher to go to the “mercado” for our morning class. We were given lists of fruits and vegetables and things you would buy at a grocery store—but today we concentrated on fruits and vegetables and tasted a little here and there as we walked through this market. We bought a liquiado, milk and fruit (I had mango and cinnamon), tasted tamarind and crystallized molasses.
After our class in the Mercado, our conversation teacher took us to an old church and convent turned into La Casa de las Artesanias. Tomorrow we are off to the Acueducto.
Later in the afternoon we took a car ride with Salvador y Maria to the Supermercado and mall to buy pan dulces (sweet bread) para nuestra cena (for our light supper) or breakfast, but instead we had oatmeal cooked in milk and strips of cinnamon. Our milk is delivered, fresh from the cow and cooked on the stove. Maria then skims the cream for cheese and butter and leaves the pot in the fridge for milk for our coffee and oatmeal. It is rich and yummy! South Beach here I come!

Happy to read all your travel-blogs.
It sounds lovely in Morelia and seems like a wonderful excursion
in the culture and language.
You made me hungry!
The fireworks are sounding off all around us right now and the weather is beautiful here.,
love judita
Sounds like a 4th of July you will never forget. Great picture at the Mercado. Tell Ruth it has not stopped raining since she left. Hot and humid; so enjoy the beautiful weather in Mexico.
I'm happy to hear you had a safe and sane 4th in Morelia. Pacifica from where I was watching on Barcelona seemed to teeter between unsafe and insane for a good part of the night. It was a gas though,I have to admit.
The sights and sounds of the Forth of July were truly amazing from Suzanne and Richie's incredible yard. The only thing missing from the almost perfect night was of course that you weren't there, that is not an attempt at being corny, that is the truth.!!.If your around the next Fourth, and of course if the weather is as picture perfect as this year, you have got to see what I mean. You know I'm not a big fireworks guy, but this you had to see to believe and hear..Oh and the BBq and wine helped to blow the night away as well. Pacifica and San Bruno are the only places around the immediate area that still raise money on fireworks, so this place exploded. Think of it as a fire sale of sorts.
That fruit looks yummy but should you be eating it?!?! If I was voluntarily in class "all summer" I'd want to walk around on field trips all day too. The history of Rome class I took in Italy that summer was quite similar, except it was in comprehensible English.
I've always wanted to taste top milk, or top foam, or whatever the stuff that is on top of fresh milk.... it's supposed to be delicious!
